Bedford Higgins Museum
Saturday 25th May 11am -4pm
Invisible Folk are organising a festival of folk music in the beautiful courtyard at the entrance to the museum. Ten folk acts ranging from a solo unaccompanied singer to a seven piece folk ‘choir’; uilleann pipes, violins and guitars will all feature.
The provisional line up is:
Chris Lawley, Jack in a Barrel, Nigel Moorcroft, Jon Bickley, Petrichor Lizzy Hardingham, Ragged Staff, Catherine Earnshaw, Marisa Jack and Davy, Pete Castle
Pete lived in Luton, Bedfordshire from 1975-87 and it was there that he first started seriously collecting songs and where was based when he went professional in 1978. He’ll be doing a set of the songs which he collected (or collected together) then a surprisingly number of which are still in his regular repertoire!
“It will be good to visit the area again as I haven’t for a long time.”
Before that Pete will be doing a talk on Derbyshire Songs and Stories for Spondon History Society (Mon 13th May)
and Links with Lit – a programme he put together some years ago about how trad songs and stories link with works of literature from Shakespeare to Dickens, for Tansley Ladies Group (Mon 20th May)
